Introduction to Teaching in Health & Social Care

This course introduces learners to the essential roles, responsibilities, and professional behaviours required to teach and support others in health and social care settings. It covers the teaching and learning cycle, legal and ethical frameworks (including safeguarding, confidentiality, and the Care Act 2014), and the importance of promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion when working with care staff, learners, or service users. Emphasis is placed on understanding the unique context of the health and social care sector, where empathy, communication, and person-centred values are central to effective education.

 Planning and Delivering Inclusive Learning Sessions

Learners will develop practical skills to plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging and inclusive teaching sessions tailored to health and social care topics—such as dignity in care, infection control, communication, or person-centred planning. The course explores a range of teaching methods (e.g., role-play, case studies, demonstrations) and assessment strategies suited to adult and vocational learners. Sessions are designed to be interactive, accessible, and aligned with both workplace competence and regulatory standards (e.g., CQC, Skills for Care).

Assessment, Feedback and Reflective Practice

Participants will learn how to use formative and summative assessment techniques to support learning and competence in health and social care environments, including workplace observations, professional discussions, and reflective journals. Constructive, timely feedback is used to guide improvement and build confidence. The course also encourages reflective practice—using models like Gibbs’ Cycle—to continuously evaluate and enhance teaching effectiveness, ensuring high-quality, compassionate education that meets the evolving needs of the care workforce and the people they support.
